Payroll Specialist - Temp to Hire

Ledgent Finance & Accounting is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist for a temp-to-hire opportunity with one of our reputable clients in the Sacramento area. This is an excellent role for a detail-oriented payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys accuracy, compliance, and high-volume processing.
Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle payroll for hourly, salary, and/or union employees
- Review and verify timecards, PTO, sick leave, and adjustments
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local payroll regulations
- Handle payroll entries, garnishments, deductions, and benefit allocations
- Reconcile payroll reports and assist with month-end payroll journal entries
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality
- Maintain accurate employee records and payroll documentation
- Support audits, reporting, and payroll-related projects as needed
?? Qualifications
- 2-5+ years of payroll experience (multi-state or union payroll is a plus)
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Paychex, iSolved, Ceridian, or similar
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, taxes, and wage requirements
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication and customer service mindset
- Ability to work with tight deadlines and confidential data
